Let’s face it, “the most wonderful time of the year” can also be the most stressful. From Black Friday crowds to Holiday shopping lists, cards, parties and entertaining we sometimes feel like we are burning the candle at both ends. The body releases cortisol and adrenaline to help boost our energy and keep us focused but after a while the constant “on” position leaves us feeling vulnerable to a host of physical and emotional problems such as headaches, muscle tension, sleeplessness and irritability.
With so much on our plate it is very easy to let our fitness routine slide. Interestingly enough, our physical activity is exactly what we need through this stressful period and can go a long way towards making us feel better. Pilates is an excellent form of exercise to do during this time. In addition to moving the body in all the directions it can move and strengthening muscle tissue, Pilates can relieve muscle tension , create a mindbody awareness and uses the breath to maintain a sense of calm.
When you are writing out your daily or weekly “to do” lists make sure to include your Pilates class or private equipment training on that list. Once you have taken care of yourself the rest of the list is more manageable and the holidays may even prove to be stress free.
If you have not yet tried Pilates and would like to come into the Studio for your complimentary 30 minute session on the equipment please contact our Pilates manager, Janice Lotwin, at janice.lotwin@activewellness.com
