Mi Ortho Arthritis FoundationⓇ Aquatics

The warm water is a great alternative exercise option if you suffer from pain. Our program includes gentle movements in our heated pool for a safe, ideal environment designed to relieve arthritis pain. We focus on increasing flexibility and range of motion while helping to build stronger muscles and overall stamina to help achieve relief from the ache of arthritis. Classes are modified to meet each individual’s needs and are led by Arthritis FoundationⓇ certified instructors. For those seeking a more challenging workout, resistance equipment can be incorporated. Beginner swimmers are welcome.

Mi Ortho Arthritis Foundation® Aquatic classes

Our fee-based Arthritis Foundation® Aquatic classes are held every Wednesday and Friday at 1pm.  This exercise program is for those with musculoskeletal conditions including, but not limited to any form of Arthritis, knee, hip, back, or shoulder conditions. As small group Aquatic Training, each participant receives individual attention from a Certified Arthritis Foundation® Aquatic Professional. This is also a great option for continued care after Physical Therapy.

Core and Muscular Strength

In every class, there is an emphasis on core strength without twisting the spine and strengthening each muscle group. With arthritis it is paramount to strengthen the muscles around the arthritic area, which will serve to protect the painful area from tension and pulling.

Pool

The Arthritis Foundation® has found that water at temperatures between 83-90 degrees are therapeutic when managing arthritis related pain. We keep our Warm Water Pool heated between 88-90 degrees. It is an excellent environment for working the whole body, strengthening muscles, and stretching the joints through their full range of pain free movement.

Modifications

Modifications are customized for each participant as needed, and we have a wide variety of equipment to use for personal optimization in order to obtain progressive results.

Tips

A good water shoe that looks like a tennis shoe made for the water is recommended but not required for exercise. The shoes adds stability, protection, and shock absorption as you walk and do exercises. Some may want to wear a swim cap as wet hair can add weight and drag to a workout. Both items are available at our Pro Shop.
