Kids Yoga

Kids Yoga meets on Wednesdays at 4 pm and Saturdays at 9 am in the Conference Room. Our Saturday class theme for September and October is Yoga Meets Science which marries hands-on science experiments with yoga practice and allows children to learn about themselves and the world around them. For example, when conducting a science experiment that involves skewering a balloon without popping it children can learn about elasticity and the behavior of long-chain polymers. After experiencing the gentle strength required to separate the balloon’s polymers, students explore using this same kind of strength to accomplish Crow pose. Now students can consider other areas where this blend of strength and restraint might be helpful (such as when dealing with conflict or when taking on a leadership role). The weekly hour-long class for 5-to 12 year-olds will spark a child’s curiosity and foster their ability to make connections.

Complimentary to members’ children, friends can join for $6 fee (friend’s parent/legal guardian must remain onsite)

A Special Educational Visit

On August 12, 2019 we had a visit from some very special friends at Tri-City Medical Center.  Volunteers with their Tender Loving Canines joined us inside the Kidz in Motion. The volunteers shared with the children about how a therapy dog helps people with all kinds of things such as being a good companion when your not feeling well.  A story was read to the children as well about the ways to approach a dog when we see one walking down the street. Most important is to ask if you can pet the dog first before approaching one. The children enjoyed listening to the story and had an opportunity to interact with each of the dogs, named Wagner, Prince, Chevy and Molly.  We thank them for this special visit, and look forward to another in the future!
